What is a BER rating?

BER ratings are required on every property that is to be sold, rented or upgraded and is a prerequisite to avail of SEAI grants. All new builds require a BER rating, to ensure that the property meets the requirements of Part L of the building regulations. This sets out the maximum carbon emissions and energy usage of the building to minimise its environmental impact. A provisional BER can be generated to ensure that a prospective property meets. BER on new builds require more paperwork than those on existing buildings.
